    Episode Spoilers, continued...

Episode 108, "The Fourth Man in the Fire":
    Director: Michael Lehmann

    • 5/28/2008 - Stephen Root has signed on for a three-episode arc in HBO's upcoming drama "True Blood." He will play Eddie Gautier, a lonely vampire smitten with Lafayette (Nelsan Ellis). (source: poster redksb1 at the Charlaine Harris message board, refering to an article at hollywoodreporter.com):

    • 9/11/2008 - [Lafayette] has a main [vampire] squeeze who supplies him with vampire blood in exchange for sexual favors. (source: windycitymediagroup.com)

    • 9/20/2008 - Sookie tries to hold herself together in the wake of another possible tragedy. Tara is amazed by Lettie Mae's turnaround, and considers similar therapy for herself after lashing out at Sookie and Sam. Jason's new squeeze Amy (Lizzy Caplan) charms the crowd at Merlotte's, but shows a darker side to Jason when their V juice well runs dry. Rene pops the question to Arlene while Sookie is baby-sitting her kids. Later, at Bill's request, Sookie agrees to use her gifts to help Eric, a powerful vampire sheriff, root out a thief at Fangtasia. (source: tv.ign.com)

    • 10/20/2008 - Bill survived the fire by spending the day underground. The episode focuses more on Bill and Sookie's relationship (and her growing realization of some of the hardships of their relationship.) Although they do have fun when they babysit Arlene's kids.

Jason and Amy spend more time together, including his sharing the story of how his and Sookie's parents died. Amy even starts working at Merlotte's. But when she and Jason follow Lafayette to the source of his V juice (Stephen Root), she shows a much uglier side.

Sookie and Tara have a blowout.

Detective Andy Bellefleur isn't completely satisfied with the excuse Sam gives him for his naked run through the woods, and starts poking around in Sam's background.

Sookie agrees to help Eric find out who has been stealing money from Fangtasia (and even agrees to help him in the future) and she ends up putting her life in danger. (source: pioneerlocal.com)

    • 5/28/2008 - Roles cast:

-Bruce (played by Michael McCafferty) - "Shot my scene for the HBO show True Blood last Wednesday. Held hands with Anna Paquin all day long. The director ("Heathers" director Michael Lehmann) and the writer on set wanted a full panic attack throughout the scene finishing with a collapse into a pile of goo." (source: Michael McCafferty's myspace blog) <-- (This sounds like the interrogation scene at Fangtasia, where Sookie reads the minds of Eric's employees to find out who embezzled his money.)

-Eddie Gautier (played by Stephen Root)

    -Ginger (played by Tara Buck):

    -Lorraine

    -Mabel

    -Naked Man

    Episode Spoilers, continued...

    Episode 109, "Plaisir D’Amour":
Written by: Brian Buckner; Directed by: Anthony Hemingway

    • 10/5/2008 - Longshadow gets staked (and I'm going to guess that Bill - not Eric like in the book - stakes him, based on the casting description for Chow, which says that Bill may go on trial for killing a vampire), and Longshadow's remains end up covering the floor at Fangtasia (shown in the promotional photo below). In the photo, Bill has Longshadow's blood on his legs <--(UPDATED 10/26/2008: I moved this spoiler from episode 8 to episode 9 because poster CLB7 at imdb.com saw episode 8 early On-Demand and said that episode 8 ends with Longshadow jumping over the bar after Sookie):

    • 10/5/2008 - Promotional photo showing Chow, Pam, and Eric in Bill's house:

    • 10/11/2008 - Bill breaks a vampire taboo in protecting Sookie – and must pay a steep price as a result. Jason and Amy break their own taboo by kidnapping a vampire named Eddie in order to harvest his blood. With Lettie Mae apparently cured, a skeptical Tara consults with Miss Jeanette about exorcising her own inner demon. Sookie returns home to yet another horrific tragedy, prompting Bill to enlist an unlikely bodyguard – Sam – to protect her while he's away. (source: Door at TelevisionWithoutPity.com) <--(So, Sookie's protector while Bill's away will be Sam instead of Bubba like in the book. It looks like there's no Bubba in the show, at least in season 1. Click the spoiler bar below to find out what Sookie's next "horrific tragedy" may be.)

[spoiler]In the book, Sookie's cat Tina was strangled by the serial killer, and left for her to find.[/spoiler]

    • 5/28/2008 - Roles cast:

Shoot Dates: May 22, 2008 (in Los Angeles, CA).

-Chow (played by Patrick Gallagher) - A 20 to 50 year old man of Chinese descent, he is Longshadow’s replacement, working with Eric and Pam. He has an air of good humor–he’s a gamer who shares a few comments about the Wii golf game with Bill–but there seems to be something subtly menacing about him. He accompanies Eric and Pam as they confront Bill with the inevitability of his trial for killing a vampire. 6 lines, 2 scenes. Possible recurring. <--(In the first book, Longshadow needed replacing because Eric killed him. However, Eric didn't go on trial in the book. Instead, Eric paid Longshadow's sire a large fine. In the show, if Bill is going on trial for killing a vampire at the same time as Chow replaces Longshadow, then it appears that Bill is probably the one who kills Longshadow.)

    Episode 110, "I Don't Wanna Know":
Written by: Chris Offutt; Directed by: Scott Winant

    • 9/12/2008 - Michelle Forbes is playing the maenad. On her message board, Charlaine Harris confirmed that she spoke with Michelle Forbes at the party at the True Blood premiere, and Michelle told her that she was playing the maenad and asked for insights into the character. According to imdb.com, Michelle Forbes plays the character Maryann. In the casting notice for this episode, Maryann is the name of the maenad in the show (in the books, her name was Callisto). <--(UPDATED 10/11/2008: I've moved spoilers related to the maenad from episode 10 to episode 11, because even though the maenad was listed back in May with the episode 10 roles, newer information indicates that she first appears in episode 11 instead. UPDATED 11/9/2008: I'm moving the maenad spoilers back to episode 10, because the episode 10 recap video at trueblood-italia.com includes a scene with Michelle Forbes.):

    • 10/11/2008 - Caught in a compromising position, Sam shares a secret with an incredulous Sookie. Thinking she's been purged of her demon, Tara celebrates with Lettie Mae – but goes off the deep end when she uncovers Miss Jeanette's true intentions. Sookie has a disturbing revelation during Arlene and Rene's engagement party at Merlotte's; Jason and Amy debate what to do with Eddie; and Tara speeds into a bizarre roadside encounter that lands her in jail. At a vampire tribunal to decide his fate, Bill faces a harsh penalty for his offense, but the magister (Zeljko Ivanek) decides on a more creative sentence involving a young human named Jessica (Deborah Ann Woll). (source: Door at TelevisionWithoutPity.com) <--(It looks like this is the episode in which Sam reveals to Sookie that he's a shapeshifter. Woof!)

    • 11/8/2008 - MsAllie on the imdb.com message board posted that she has seen episodes 10 & 11, and said this about episode 10 and the tribunal: "[E]pisode 10's tribunal scene is quite disturbing on many levels. It is a very, very dark scene. With the exception of this scene, I was rather disappointed with the episode. There wasn't anything we didn't expect and I was left feeling like the story didn't advance much.

Actually, Bill pleads for the [5 years in chains] sentence once he hears (and sees) the alternative. but they are determined to make bill more "vampire mainstream" as opposed to his current version of mainstreaming.

    • 5/28/2008 - Roles cast:

Shoot Dates: June 6, 2008 (in Los Angeles, CA).
Note: All characters require Southern Accents.

-Magister (played by Zeljko Ivanek) - 40s-50s, Caucasian, bureaucratic and quietly powerful, he's an intimidating and calm vampire who runs a court tribunal that punishes crimes in the vampire community. When questioned, his temper flares up, and he proves ingeniously sadistic in his sentencing; he was trained in the Inquisition and knows how to torture. Magister is amused by and indifferent to the plight of Jessica, a human sacrifice, and rather turned on by her death. Guest Star. Possible Recurring. UPDATED 10/25/2008: Zeljko Ivanek as the magister is pictured below (source: tvguide.com) <--(There was no tribunal in the first book, so the magister is a new character.):

-Jessica (played by Deborah Ann Woll) - 17. This wholesome, churchgoing, beautiful girl is petrified to discover that she is going to be sacrificed as part of a vampire punishment. She begs for her life and is briefly calmed down by Bill before terrible pain and fear cause her to faint. Guest Star. Recurring. <--(Jessica is a new character. Since she also appears in the season finale, and will be a regular in season 2, Jessica survives this episode - in one form or another. UPDATED: Bill turns Jessica into a vampire.)

-Luisa - This female vampire at Magister's tribunal removes another vampire's fangs with pliers as punishment for a crime. She is sexually aroused by Jessica's fear and kisses Eric. <--(Luisa is a new character.)

-Sam's Mother - Seen in a flashback. In her 40s. She is 15 year old Sam's adoptive mother who is scared and perplexed by Sam's behavior. Possible Recurring. <--(Sam wasn't adopted in the books, so this is a new plotline.)

-Young Sam - Seen in a flashback, he is Sam (Sam Trammell) as a 15 year old boy. He is scared of and confused by his ability to shapeshift. The process is frightening, and causes him to shake like he's having a seizure. Later, Sam returns home from school to a heartbreaking discovery: his adoptive parents have completely abandoned him. Possible Recurring.

-Woman in the Woods/Maryann (played by Michelle Forbes) - 30s-40s. She is a maenad. This wild woman is supernatural, articulate and polished. She feeds on the fears of others and is a BIG DEAL in season two. Nudity might be required. Very Strong Recurring in Season Two. <--(The maenad appeared in the second book, and her name in the book was Callisto. UPDATED 10/11/2008: I've moved this role from episode 10 to episode 11. UPDATED 11/9/2008: I've moved this role back to episode 10.)

    Episode Spoilers, continued...

Episode 111, "To Love is to Bury":
Written and directed by: Nancy Oliver

    • 9/11/2008 - Lafayette is sleeping with the senator and nobody knows. Sookie and Sam go to Big Patty's Pie House to ask questions about Cindy, a waitress and murder victim. (source: windycitymediagroup.com)

    • 10/11/2008 - Bill fulfills the conditions of the tribunal's sentence, although he and Eric find that Jessica doesn't quite turn (out) as expected. Trying to solve the mystery behind her most recent vision, Sookie heads to a pie shop with Sam and later puts the squeeze on a philandering police officer to get info. Jason helps clean up Amy's mess, worrying about their future, but unable to break away. Tara's anger over Lettie Mae's refusal to bail her out of jail is tempered when Maryann Forrester (Michelle Forbes), a wealthy “social worker,” comes to her rescue. Disgusted by the hypocrisy of a vamp-bashing state senator, Lafayette decides to pay him a visit on the campaign trail. In Bill's absence, a vulnerable Sookie finds comfort in Sam. A distraught Jason finds himself in hot water with Bud and Andy, again. (source: Door at TelevisionWithoutPity.com)

    • 11/8/2008 - MsAllie on the imdb.com message board posted that she has seen episodes 10 & 11, and in several posts she provided this info about episode 11: "The funniest by far due to the Bill/Jessica interaction. Kudos to the actress and Stephen Moyer. Bill is mostly absent until 3/4 way through, so you miss him, but his reappearance is absolutely hysterical, though short. Eric is equally as funny with his dry delivery and "help" to Bill. The fate of jason's captive vampire (Eddie) is revealed, and the Jason/Amy relationship takes a definite turn. Bill and Sookie have a sad interaction at the end that may piss off some. Bill and Sam have a cool fight. Who wins?"

"[Bill] tries to mainstream his new protege when she finally wakes but she's having none of it. Very funny stuff." "...with [Jessica] whining to Bill that she's sooo hungry and spitting out the [TruBlood] he tries to give her, saying it's awful and has no taste and he's mean for not letting her feed off all the people at the club Fangtasia. Bill's exasperated like a new father with a spoile[d] child and goes to Eric for help. Please adopt her, take her off my hands."

"Amy stakes Eddie as Jason is trying to free him. Amy is strangled in bed the next night. Jason wakes up next to a dead girl. uh oh."

Regarding the Sookie/Sam kiss: "[Sookie] gives the excuse that Bill was away so long with no word and she didn't know if he was coming back or not. Remember, she and Sam have always had a thing for each other (She says in the books that Sam was a repeat star in some of her best fantasies). They spend quite a few days and nights together for various reasons (he's protecting her, etc) and it just leads to that. This is the last or almost last scene in epi 11. To end the fight (no one is strong enough to stop Bill), she takes back her invite. Magic forces him out of her house. It ends with Bill walking backward out of her house, begging her not to ban him. Good cliffhanger. not sure if I'll get epi 12 early."

    "Clarification on epi 11:

I rewatched it and her kicking out Bill is not the last scene, so that's not where it will pick up in epi 12. Bill turns to leave after he's out the door so I guess that's the end of that. Sam is not shown being kicked out, but she does rebuff him after that. Presumably he stays overnight to guard her (there's a reason).

Some funny lines between Eric/Bill/Jessica (not exact):

    Eric: She's your punishment, Bill
Bill: She won't listen to me
Eric: You can't handle one little girl? [to Jessica:] You want to stay with your maker don't you?
Jessica: No, he's a dick, dick, dick! [Eric laughs] He's the worst maker ever! He won't let me have any fun. I'm starving! Oh, I want to get out of here and do something bad!
Eric: Shut up and sit down. Now, how would you like to see how a real vampire feeds?
    Bill: I owe you
    Eric: Yes, you do

    • 11/12/2008 - MsAllie at imdb.com posted some information regarding how [Jessica] becomes a vampire on True Blood:

"[Alan Ball] provides a much better explanation of "turning" in episode 11. Not only does the victim have to be drained by a vampire, then given the vamp blood, but they have to spend the night with the maker in a hole all buried up in a grave. That vampire's magic essence is transferred to the victim, who sleeps two more days without the maker then awakens vamp."

    • 6/13/2008 - Roles cast:

Shoot Dates: June 23, 2008 (in Los Angeles, CA).
Note: All characters require Southern Accents.

-Kenya - 30s, African-American. She's a Deputy with the Sheriff's Department who arrests Tara for drunk driving. She's highly skeptical of Tara's claims but feels a bit sorry for her, as well. Guest Star.

-Buster - 60s -70s. This large man who has a voracious appetite is a regular customer at Big Patty's Pie House. He orders food for Sookie and Sam and offers up some information on Cindy, a waitress and murder victim. <--(In the book, Cindy was the name of Rene's sister, although she was a waitress in a hospital cafeteria.) Buster dislikes vamps and those who hang around them.

-Officer Don - 40s, Caucasian, obstinate, slow and unhelpful. This small town cop doesn't like Sookie and Sam and believes that murder victim Cindy had it coming because she fraternized with vampires. Don is cheating on his wife, and Sookie uses this against him to get the information she needs.

-Harley - 17ish. She's a dimbulb waitress at Big Patty's Pie House, just like murder victim Cindy. She started this job two weeks ago and claims she doesn't know any Cindy, but she's happy to recommend all sorts of pies.

-Bland Reporter - Seen on TV, this bland reporter discusses Senator Dave Finch's campaign.

-Lurlene - 30s, attractive and flirty, in conservative dress. She tries to catch Senator Finch's attention on the campaign trail but gets pushed out of the way by Lafayette.

-Rosie - 20s, "Bon Temps-hot". She's a disorganized, distracted secretary at the jail. Recurring.

-Aide - Senator Finch's aide. He or she takes photos of the Senator with constituents, unaware that Lafayette poses a threat.

    • 9/26/2008 - Guest stars Mehcad Brooks, Todd Lowe, Deborah Ann Woll and Michelle Forbes will be regulars in season 2. All will appear in the first-season finale. Mehcad Brooks will play Benedict "Eggs" Talley, a mellow, guitar-strumming refugee from a hard life. Todd Lowe debuted his character Terry Bellefleur in episode 2. Tara decides to make the most of her second chance with Maryann; Jason finds a new calling after anti-vampire zealot Orry visits him in jail; Bill tempts fate during his latest attempt to save Sookie; Sam is perturbed by an encounter with an old acquaintance; Lafayette finds himself in the wrong place at the right time. -Cindy <--(This must be the waitress and murder victim mentioned in the casting notices for episode 11. In the books, Cindy was the name of Rene's sister.)

    -Karl

-Orry Dawson (played by Michael Bofshever) <--(In the books, there's a werewolf named Tray Dawson who is a mechanic and also moonlights (heh!) as a bodyguard, so perhaps Orry is either the same character or a relative. Or maybe not - we'll have to wait and see.):
